My dearest friend,
I feel I ought to write today but also feel quite
unable. I must be content - & you must try to be - write telling
you that I jog along without too many satisfactions or
disappointments. The life is

Not as long as I expected: there is generally company (besides Maine) at some meal of the day. Still I work moderately well, and shall be ready to revise by next Saturday. Tomorrow I shall have a slack day and lunch outdoors with Elsey; I only hope I shall have something to say.
About the waistcoats, I
Will ask [illegible] in [illegible] for it, and sending you the 1/6 some stamps. Will you please send me my two pairs of flannel knickers after putting on loops for my braces? Mothers objection is useless: they are too loose for their thickness to be unpleasant.
I really will try to write tomorrow but being low in lolly after paying
