My dearest friend,
I have had badly - and still have to in painful [illegible] - neuralgia and rheumatism, I can’t keep me indoors, stupid and surly. So I can’t write. My [illegible] in pain by reading thought I can’t work. Will you at once forward me the first two volumes of
My Montaigné - on the French shelf opposite the door? Next to Lamb it is the best reading for the present - Still, I slept well last night, and didn’t rise till 12. I sat up reading, you dear unreasonable thing, because I couldn’t sleep. What else could I do?
I hope to be home by March 17th.
When I am well I will write to you, dearest, as you deserve, and as I would like - or almost, for neither is quite attainable. Kiss Philip Merfyn and he will kiss you for me. Ever and wholly yours
