William Henry Thomas from Pontarddulais was a Private with the Second Devonshire Regiment. This photograph was probably taken when he joined the Army in 1916 aged around 20 or 21. He had previously been a shop assistant at the Co-Op and a collier for a short while. He was wounded on 1 July 1916 and was subsequently discharged from the Army.
