A newspaper clipping from the Tivyside newspaper telling the story of Lemuel Thomas Rees of Cross Inn, Blaenannerch who was hit by shrapnel and saved by the Bible he was carrying in his breast pocket. The copy had been presented to him at Cenarth Calvinistic Methodist Sunday School where he was a member. Lemuel Thomas Rees, son of John and Sarah Rees, from Cross Inn near Blaenannerch volunteered for the Army at the outbreak of war in 1914 but was refused because of his chest. He was later conscripted in 1917 and joined the 6th Battalion South Wales Borderers. Unfortunately, Lemuel Thomas Rees was killed on 13 November 1918, two days after the Armistice was signed. He is buried at Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille in France.
