This photograph shows William Matthews (sat on the front of the camel) and Frank Smale (behind him) in front of the pyramids in Egypt. William was from Penarth and Frank from Cardiff; both were serving on HMS Bellerophon and are in their naval uniform. In 1918 Frank was to marry William's sister, Gladys.
