Arthur Michael, son of Mr & Mrs Thomas Michael, Southend, Mumbles. He served as Private 2287 in the Royal Irish Regiment, and died of Enteric fever, aged 28, on 9 April 1915, County Longford, Ireland. He is buried at Oystermouth Cemetery, Mumbles and remembered with Honour on the Great War Rood Screen Memorial, All Saints' Church, Mumbles, Swansea. The Michael family sent six of its sons to serve in the war and Arthur was one of two lost in the conflict.
His brother, Ernest Michael of the 6th African Infantry, died aged 38, on the 9 April 1919, Durban Hospital, South Africa. He is buried with honour at Durban Cemetery. The verse which is displayed on the Family Memorial in Oystermouth Cemetery reads:
'Forth from the conflict unashamed, He passed victorious on his way'.
