The 2011 1egs 11 Cha11enge gets people walking in 2011.
To celebrate achieving the coveted Walkers are Welcome status, Clwb Cerdded Crwydro Caron Walking Club presents its first ever walking weekend on the Royal Wedding Bank Holiday weekend, April 29 - May 02 2011.
The Club hopes to take advantage of the status and attract more walkers and visitors to Tregaron and the Cambrian Mountains. This would be a timely boost to the local economy and be an opportunity for local businesses to capitalise on the opportunities that might evolve.
The weekend will start with the official launch of the status on a footpath behind the Talbot Hotel in Tregaron followed by the launch of a booklet containing 7 local themed walks.
Tori Jamesthe first Welsh woman to climb the world's highest mountain, Everest, will officially launch the weekend and do an inspirational talk afterwards in the Talbot Hotel.
A variety of walks will be available over the weekend including the world's first ever mobile game of bingo, The 2011 1egs 11 Cha11enge Wa1k.
There will also be two walks with a Royal 'theme'. Whilst the happy couple will have walked hand in hand from Westminster Abbey in London, why not join the walk from Strata Florida Abbey to Tregaron.
The Catrin Trail walk will also welcome any body named Catrin Catherine or Kate to the short family walk on Saturday 30th with 6 year old Catrin Morgan leading her first ever walk.
The Walkers are Welcome status has been gained in partnership with Ceredigion's Tourism Clusters project Darganfod/Discovering Ceredigion.
The Ceredigion County Council "Discovering Ceredigion" project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development
Tregaron recently achieved the coveted Walkers are Welcome status and it is hoped that this award will make the town, its attractive countryside and history more well-known with walkers across the UK, bringing with it income to the local economy from visitors.
The entire weekend is possible via the support of Communities First Tregaron and its Upland Villages and Communities First Aberystwyth and Penparcau.
Further support has been welcomed from Tourism Partnership Mid Wales, The Blakemore Foundation and Cotswold Outdoor Carmarthen, the outdoor retailer.
