Henry Jack, Managing Director of Aluminium Corporation from 1915-1927, organised the train for the first "sod" cutting ceremony. Jack presented James Stott with a silver spade to cut the first sod, and the party returned to dinner at the Porth Llwyd Hotel. The engine here is the 0-4-0 Orenstein & Koppel No 5668 built in 1912 and renamed Eigiau. It was bought from a Wirral contractor and worked from 1917 to 1922 on the Cowlyd tramway. It was sold to Penrhyn Quarries in 1929 and is still preserved. In 1993 it was part of the collection at the Bressingham Steam & Gardens museum located at Bressingham, west of Diss in Norfolk, England. Eigiau is now fully restored on the Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway in Kent.
