From a point above the tunnels that the dual carriageway passes through today heading straight for the bridge. The big house in the foreground is Port Mahon Hse. The River Monnow doesn't turn towards the Wye now, it was straightened out 150 years ago probably to reduce flooding which was an annual event almost until modern flood banks were built.
