Betws y Coed Railway Station

Disgrifiadau

With staff standing on the platform. The Station Master, Mr Hobley, stands extreme right. Two to his left is William Griffiths, station signal man, great grandfather of the donor, and extreme left are William Owen Griffiths, grandfather of the donor and Robert John, his older brother. At that time the Griffiths family lived in the adjoining railway premises, a terrace of four cottages which had allotments opposite. William Griffiths also worked at Gaerwen, Holyhead, Ffestiniog and Dolwyddelan Railway Stations, whilst his father, Robert Griffiths, had been a platelayer working on laying the Conwy Valley railway line.

Later Robert John Griffiths ran a magazine, newspaper and book stall on the same platform whilst his brother William Owen Griffiths became a steam locomotive driver at Llandudno Junction.

[N.B. Information from donor: Newspaper poster visible in the original photograph has the headline 'Wheat King's [£635,000?] Profit in a day'.]
