This is a narrative account of the National service experience relating to Mr Roy 'Denzil' Davies of Golden Valley on the Welsh borders. Denzil, who is often seen in Hay on Wye, Powys, was called up to undertake National Service in 1956. He served a two-year engagement, the majority of which was undertaken on the island of Cyprus. The narrative relies heavily on an interview with Denzil, undertaken in 2025 by a Veterans Officer from Age Cymru Dyfed.
