This is a photograph of the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Hermes sailing off Sicily in July 1960. Royal Navy Radio Operator Edward Pope served aboard this ship between March and September 1960. This was his first posting. His story can be read on line in the Edward Pope collection at the West Wales Veterans archive.
