Pottery found on the Newport Medieval ship
Disgrifiadau
Over 240fragments of pottery and ceramicswere found on the Medieval ship. The majority of the fragments found were Portuguesemerida coarse ware which may have been used as equipment on the ship. There were other post-medieval ceramics found but this was probably because the ship was wrecked for such a long time, and the site eventually became used as a rubbish tip. Merida potteryis found in many different places all over Britain, which shows how much trade was carried out between Northern and Southern Europe at this time in history. Most merida ceramics are made in south-west Spain but the region of Alentjo in Portugal also contributed and flourished.
