Castell Coch Drawing Room alcove decoration

Disgrifiadau

Flowers represented are Madonna Lilies, scarlet geranium, a pair of daisies, tiger lily. An interpretation of the meaning of this flower grouping is that the Madonna lilies represent Lord and Lady Bute and their daughter Margaret (springing from Lady Bute), who was an only child at the time the castle was built. In the Victorian language of flowers, the lilies mean Majesty, the scarlet geranium means Home, A Place of rest, and the tiger lily means resurrection. It is likely that Lord Bute was celebrating the resurrection of the castle as a home for his much loved family.
