A view of the Angell valley taken in the late 1920s after the surrounding hills had been stripped bare of its trees during the First World war and before the planting started by the Forestry Commission in the early 1920s had begun to make an impact., The two buildings are Cefngwyn farm , mentioned in the 1658 Hearth Tax Returns, and the later ‘Hall’ built in the 1880s by the quarry owning Bradwell family. One of the best photos of the Hendre Ddu Tramway to survive. In a high-resolution version of this photo you can see the rails curving below the Hall. I think this is taken in the early 1920s, just after the National Welsh Slate Quarry company had relaid this section of the tramway.
