Engraved silver plaque

Disgrifiadau

This silver plaque is all that remains of an elaborate 800 piece silver dinner service, which was awarded to Sir Thomas Phillips after he put down the Chartist Uprising in 1839. It was paid for by public subscription and bears the names of the subscribers. Made by Benjamin Smith – one of the finest silversmiths in London at the time. The plaque was discovered in the 1980s in a scrap-yard in Essex and bought by Newport Museum.
