My ancestor Thomas James 1779-1856 was miller here, living here with his wife Maria, who lived to be 105! Their children included James James 1812 - 1898, who was also miller here in 1871 before farming Whitton Bush. Two of James James' sons also milled here, the elder - another James James - 1843-1870 went to Aberdare to become a police constable. His diary was the basis for the film "James James a Victorian Policeman". In the course of his duties he was attacked and seriously injured and he came back to the mill and worked there with his younger brother Aaron James. James Jamed died of tb in 1870. Aaron left the mill and became a prosperous farmer in the Vale, serving at one time as Mayor of Aberavon before retiring to Cowbridge.
