Scientific Name:Xylaria polymorpha
Fungi facts:This species is also known as Dead Man’s Fingers because of its appearance. It occurs on dead wood, mainly beech mainly during the summer and autumn but can be found throughout the year. The ‘fingers’ can turn different colours depending what type of spores are produced. Asexual spores (conidia) are produced which colours the surface white or a bluey-grey and the sexual spores are produced in little flasks beneath the surface which gives it a knobbly black-brown colour
