Railway, Michaelston-super-Ely

Disgrifiadau

The Barry mainline railway ran along the western edge of Michaelston-super-Ely – the most famous feature is the Drope viaduct which was built in the 1890s. The line closed in the 1960s and the M4 link road now runs along part of the railway route.

This view is looking north with Drope Junction Signal Box in the centre and a freight train heading towards Barry passing by. The line going off to the left went to Peterston and enabled the Barry Railway to take coal from the Ely and Ogmore Valleys off the Great Western mainline at that point.
