Disgrifiad

A rare decorated police truncheon of the quite short lived (1850 - 1862) South Wales Railway Company. Part of my Welsh truncheons collection.

A sturdy and quite heavy truncheon measuring seventeen and a half inches in length. Numbered 33, which shows that there were at least 33 police officers employed by that railway company. The truncheon manufacturer is Parker, 233 Holborn (London).

The South Wales Railway was a 7 ft (2,134 mm) broad gauge railway that linked the Gloucester & Dean Forest Railway with Neyland in Pembrokeshire. The line now forms part of the South Wales main line and Gloucester to Newport line.

In 1862 the South Wales Railway amalgamated with the Great Western Railway. In 1872 the tracks were re-gauged from broad to standard gauge.
